RSS Potholder Pattern

Today, we’ll learn the RSS potholder pattern. There’s just something geek-tastic about the RSS icon. Even though there’s no official social media site associated with RSS, it’s ubiquitous and immediately recognizable. I especially like the triangle edging on this one.

Materials

  • Worsted weight yarn. I used Lily Sugar n’ Cream because I love its durable, cotton look. Colors: orange and white.
  • H hook
  • Yarn needle

Instructions

Front panel (make 1)
With orange, ch 26
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each sc across (25) Ch 1, turn
Row 2-29: Sc in each sc across (25) Ch 1, turn.

  • I recommend that you do not hide the working yarn of the other color inside the stitches. When you do this, the contrasting color shows through a little, and since the potholder is made of two panels, the back panel will cover up the strands of loose yarn on the back side of the work.

Fasten off, weave in ends

Back panel (make 1)
With orange, ch 26
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each sc across (25) Ch 1, turn
Row 2-29: Sc in each sc across (25) Ch 1, turn.
Fasten off, weave in ends

V-Stitch Edging
Place top panel on top of bottom panel. Line up the stitches. I recommend blocking them to the same size before stitching them together, but if you don’t have time for that, it’s OK.
Rnd 1: Join white to any corner stitch, and work 3 sc into the corner. Sc evenly around. (Watch my video on crocheting around a piece if you need help with this.) Join to first sc with sl st. Ch 2, do not turn.
Rnd 2: (dc, ch1, dc) in nxt st, sk nxt 2 sts* Repeat from  * to * around. To finish, dc in last sc, ch1, sl st in top of ch-2 st. Finish off, weave in ends.
