Free Wizard of Oz Cowardly Lion Crochet Pattern

Lion

All hail the King of Beasts! The Cowardly Lion is the cutest and cuddliest of Dorothy’s paradoxical companions who accompany her to the Emerald City in The Wizard of Oz. The Cowardly Lion has an anxiety complex, and he’s totally disabled by the fact that he experiences fear when he should be the most courageous of animals. He insists he’s a coward even though he repeatedly performs brave acts despite his fear.

This free crochet pattern goes along with the other amigurumi patterns in my Wizard of Oz set. I intentionally made it easy to crochet so it whips up quickly. Enjoy!

Materials

  • Worsted weight (4-ply) yarn (any type) in yellow/mustard, orange/rust, and black
  • G hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Black doll eyes (small)
  • Polyester stuffing

Project Notes

All rounds are worked in spiral (without joining). Stuff each part firmly as you go. Gauge is not important with amigurumi. The larger the hook and thicker the yarn, the larger the doll, and vice versa. Stuff each part firmly as you go. Check out my abbreviations page if you need help reading this pattern.

Special Stitches

Loop stitch (lp st): Insert hook into stitch, wrap yarn around pointer finger of left hand (when crocheting right-handed) and hook the leftmost strand and pull through. Yarn over and pull through all loops on hook. Remove pointer finger from loop.
